Finding a Better Way
Jaquie Mills, M Ed, Managing Director, Microboards Australia Jaquie’s adult son Eli is supported by a microboard. His microboard formalized his natural supports by forming a legal entity to help him achieve his goals. The board provides security & safeguards his future; protects his right to be involved in decisions about his life; supports him in employment, continuing education, relationships, and leisure; and has fostered a strong community and reciprocal relationships. Jaquie shares her journey and link the solutions she has found to work happening right here in Ontario. |

Helping or Hindering: adults facilitating friendship opportunities
Dr. Zachary Rossetti, Associate Professor of Special Education Dr. Rossetti's research identifies the ways that educators can increase and improve social interaction opportunities between students with and without disabilities as a precursor to friendship development. This approach inherently shifts the focus from the deficits of students with disabilities to the environmental contexts that support all students to participate, interact, and ultimately, to develop friendships with each other. Dr Rossetti discusses how educators can partner with parents and siblings to facilitate friendship opportunities for all students. |
